Add a chatbot that uses AI to answer visitors’ questions based on your site content. Set the chatbot’s name and response style, and connect visitors with a site manager if needed.
The chatbot uses AI credits. Before using it, check your site’s remaining AI credits. For details about the included amount and terms for purchasing additional credits, see the pricing page.
Basic chatbot settings
Turn on the chatbot
In the site editor, click Site settings → Chatbot and turn on the chatbot.
Set the button image and name
In the widget, click the chatbot button image to upload an image, then enter the name to display in the chat window under Chatbot name.
Change the design
Expand Chatbot design to view the settings for the profile image, greeting, chatbot font, colors, and background.
If the greeting is set to 'Auto-generate', it will be generated based on the content of the page the visitor is viewing.
Add FAQ buttons
In Chatbot design, click the + next to Frequently asked questions.
Enter a question as the button label so visitors can select it as soon as they open the chatbot, then click Save.
Set response instructions
In the Response instructions field, describe the chatbot’s tone, personality, and response style. Even with custom instructions, the default rule that it only answers based on your site content remains in effect.
Select a preset instruction, such as “Friendly and warm” or “Short and clear,” to fill the field with a recommended instruction.
Add knowledge bases to reference in responses
Expand the Knowledge bases menu to connect additional sources. If there are Slashpage sites whose content can be referenced in responses, select them from the site list.
You can only add sites where you are registered as an admin and that are publicly accessible.
If the site you want to reference in responses is not on Slashpage, enter the URL of a public webpage in the External link field and click Add. The chatbot may not be able to read external pages that require login or have access restrictions.
Set AI credit usage limit
To set the AI credit limit allocated to the chatbot for a month, turn on the usage limit and enter the desired amount in the monthly chatbot credit field.
Set what happens when the chatbot has difficulty answering
Connect to a manager
To let visitors request a consultation with a site administrator, turn on Connect to a manager.
When a request to connect to a manager is made, the site owner and admin members receive the following notification.
Link guides and contact channels
To direct visitors to a help center or contact page, click + to the right of the Additional guidance button.
Enter a button label and destination URL in the fields, choose a color and corner radius, then click Save.
Managing the chatbot
Check that the chatbot works
On the visitor view, click the speech bubble button in the lower-right corner to open the chatbot.
With an admin account, the chatbot conversation management screen opens. To view the visitor experience, use a browser where you are logged out or an incognito window.
Enter a question and click Send to see the answer. If a page cited in the answer is shown, open the link to check the original content as well.
View chatbot conversation history
Using a site owner or admin account, click the chatbot button in the lower-right corner of the screen. Select a conversation from the AI conversations list to view its questions and answers.
Respond to a manager connection request
In the In progress tab, select a received request, enter your response in the input field, then click the send icon.
The manager's response appears in the Manager tab of the visitor's chat window.
End consultation
When the conversation is over, click End inquiry in the upper-right corner of the chat window.
If the visitor doesn't reply for 3 days during a conversation, it will automatically end.
Select a closed conversation in the Closed conversations tab to view its previous chat history.
Install the chatbot on an external site
In Install on an external site, click the copy icon next to the code. Paste it before the </body> tag in the HTML of the external site where you want to install the chatbot to complete the installation.
